Introduction

In various fields of science and technology the role of computational modelling has become of paramount importance. This is because of ever increasing need of analysing data, solve numerically mathematical models and do simulations of systems and processes of physical, biological, technical, economical, societal and human cognitive origin. This very generic information processing approach to invariably complex natural and engineering systems is called Computational engineering since it also includes considerations of efficient modelling, visualisation and computation methods.

The Computational engineering major focuses on developing student's readiness in solving problems of complex systems in science and technology by means of computational modeling, analysis and simulations. The major is based on computational science and engineering studies and related mathematical studies. Courses of information engineering, cognitive technology, computational physics, signal processing and system analysis can also be included in the studies.

The central aim of computational engineering major is to train all-around experts for development, design, and research positions, in public and private sector institutions and companies of various science and technology fields. This major is well suited for M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies due to large number of courses being given in English at this level.
