This course will be held during the period IV in 2009.

The aim of this course is to provide the students with an introduction and understanding of the most commonly used modern molecular simulation methods for systems involving comples dynamics and their physical and theoretical basis. Coarse-graining of MD based dynamics will be dealt with and applied in the form of computational assignments. In 2009 the coarse-grained method of choice will be stochastic rotation dynamics, but optionally other methods, such as lattice Boltzmann method, may be investigated through an assignment.

This course is intended for advanced undergraduate or graduate students in physics and engineering. A good knowledge of programming in EITHER C/C++ or Fortran 77/90/95 is required. A working knowledge of basic physics, including Newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics and elementary statistical mechanics (statistical thermodynamics) is recommended.

The exact form (lectures, assignments, and the exam) of the course will be decided based on the number of participants.
